It’s no secret that the double-glazing industry has a history of installation companies becoming insolvent, rendering any warranties offered by these companies useless and leaving customers in the lurch with large expenses when repairs or replacements are needed.

This scenario can be avoided with insurance-backed guarantees, which are offered freely by an installer and last for up to 10 years from the date of installation. This guarantee is an insurance policy that comes into effect if your installer ceases trading, providing you with the benefits of the written warranty issued by them.

Any reputable installer should offer this type of insurance-backed guarantee to customers, along with written warranties, on all windows and doors fitted by them. Leading industry bodies such as Assure now stipulate that all customers must be offered this insurance as a condition of membership.

At Mike Martin Windows, we offer this type of guarantee to all of our customers for 10 years from the date of installation.

Warranties and guarantees both protect you when purchasing new windows and doors, but there are crucial differences.

Any reputable installer should provide you with both a warranty and an insurance-backed guarantee. Having only one leaves you vulnerable in different scenarios.

A warranty without an insurance-backed guarantee leaves you unprotected if the installer goes out of business during the warranty period. You cannot claim directly from the manufacturer, as their warranties are between the manufacturer and the installer.

A lack of insurance-backed guarantee might also indicate that the installer is not a member of a leading industry body like Assure, which requires members to offer insurance policies to their customers. This could also suggest non-compliance in other areas, such as Building Control regulations.

An insurance-backed guarantee without a warranty also leaves you unprotected. You can only claim if the installer ceases trading.

In both cases, you could be left out of pocket if issues arise with your windows and doors. It’s vital to understand exactly what cover your installer provides.

At Mike Martin Windows, we provide all of our customers with warranties and insurance-backed guarantees – some of the fullest coverage in the industry. Should you have any issues with your replacement windows and doors

due to manufacturing or installation, they will be repaired or replaced for up to 10 years after the installation date.

All window and door frames supplied and fitted by Mike Martin Windows come with a minimum 5-year manufacturer’s warranty as standard. However, we personally provide an extended warranty to cover you for a 10-year period from the date of installation.

In certain cases, our manufacturers may offer an even longer warranty to protect your frames against specific issues. Timber window and door frames are covered for up to 30 years against rot and fungal decay.

All glass-sealed units in windows and doors installed by Mike Martin Windows are covered against the failure of the hermetical seals (misting between two panes of glass) under the manufacturer’s warranty for 2 years as standard. However, we personally extend this warranty to cover you for 10 years from the date of installation.

All metallic moving parts on your replacement windows and doors (notably the handles, hinges, and locks) come with a 12-month manufacturer’s warranty as standard. However, we personally provide an extended warranty and cover you for a 2-year period from the date of installation.

Our manufacturers may offer a longer warranty for specific moving parts. For example, our Endurance composite doors come with a £2000 insurance against home break-ins. All Endurance customers must register there product here: https://endurancedoors.co.uk/security-guarantee/

Our warranty covers:

  • Any reasonable faults that may occur, such as manufacturing defects or damage, and unreasonable weather and corrosion damage.
  • Any other reasonable faults that are assessed (in accordance with industry guidelines) as having developed due to inferior workmanship.

There are some standard restrictions on what is covered under your MMWS. warranty and guarantee. For example, you cannot claim for:

  • Any part that is assessed as having been damaged as a result of accident or negligence (lack of proper maintenance) by you or a third party following installation.
  • Blemishes or faults arising from normal wear and tear following installation.

We also kindly ask that you do not interfere with or attempt to repair any part of your window or door yourself if you wish to make a claim, as doing so can invalidate your warranty and guarantee.

Your Warranty is Automatically Activated.

There’s no need for extra steps to activate your Mike Martin Windows warranty or guarantee. Once your installation is complete and your final balance invoice has been settled, your warranty will begin automatically.

Upon receiving your final payment, our office team will register your installation with our specialist insurance-backed guarantee provider, simultaneously with registering qualifying installations with Assure.

Yes, we register your installation with Assure.

Once your replacement windows and doors are installed, and you’ve signed the customer acceptance form, our office team will register your installation (subject to qualifying criteria) with Assure, a government-authorised scheme monitoring building regulation compliance for replacement windows and doors.

You’ll receive an Assure certificate within 2 months of installation. Your Assure certificate proves that your Mike Martin Windows installation:

Complies with building control regulations

Uses energy-efficient products

Is registered with the local council

Is protected by our warranty and guarantee

When selling your home, it’s a legal requirement to provide proof that your replacement windows and doors comply with building regulations for up to 6 years after installation. It’s essential to keep your certificate safe. If you lose your Assure certificate, you can order a replacement directly from Assure’s website for a small fee.

Note: Not all installers comply with building regulations or register your installation with the local council, which are legal requirements. If your installer doesn’t mention your legal responsibility or offer an Assure certificate or other building regulations compliance certificate, you’ll need to pay for an inspection by building control.

If non-compliance issues are found, you’ll also need to pay to rectify them.

Peace of Mind When You Move

We take pride in our windows and doors and genuinely believe they are the best available. If you decide to move, the existing Assure certificate and guarantee for your windows and doors can be transferred to the new homeowners, providing them with peace of mind as well.

Your conveyancer can typically handle the transfer of your guarantee as part of the property ownership change. However, if you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly team. They’ll be happy to help.

Please note: A small administration fee may apply to transfer the benefits of your policy to the new homeowner.
